NCIC Vice Chair Mary Onyango loses battle with cancer

www.ntv.co.ke National Cohesion and Integration Commission Vice Chairperson Mary Onyango is dead. Mary has been battling breast cancer for the last 11 years and just last year doctors discovered that the cancerous cells had moved to her liver. She passed on earlier this morning. Prime Minister Raila Odinga has mourned the Deputy Chair of NCIC describing her as a "peace ambassador". The PM said she was determined to ensure that the next General Election would be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere. Only two weeks ago, Mary Onyango took the PM through the NCIC Commission's plan to ensure the next elections are held in an atmosphere of peace and trust, a feat she believed would be achieved through the Kenya Kwanza Campaign. Cancer is a disease that is killing approximately 18000 Kenyans annually. That is about 50 people dying on a daily basis, from cancer.

NCIC Diversity Conference

Politicians have been put on the spot for fueling tribal conflicts in the country for personal political gains. The harsh verdict was issued at the launch of a two day peoples conference on diversity, ethnicity and race hosted by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission. Speakers at the conference noted with concern utterances by certain politicians ahead of the general election which they termed as threatening to national cohesion. Prime Minister Raila Odinga who oficially openned the conference called for harsh punishment to be meted on those who killed kenyans in the 2007-2008 post election violence.

NCIC kicks off campaign to foster peace

www.ntv.co.ke The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has kicked off a campaign to foster peace ahead of the coming elections. The campaign will target among others political, religious and corporate leaders as well as civil society groups. Individuals will be required to sign a charter undertaking to maintain peace. Prime Minister Raila Odinga was the first to sign the peace charter.

NCIC Conference Launches ' Kenya Kwanza Campaigns'

Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Monday launched the 'Kenya Kwanza Campaigns' during the National Cohesion and Integration Commission's conference dubbed the people's conference that took place at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. The conference which was attended by top government officials was aimed at identifying and analyzing factors inhibiting the attainment of harmonious relations between ethnic communities in Kenya. Chief Justice Willy Mutunga challenged Kenyans and political leaders to stop being vernacular Kenyans who think and look at everything from an ethnic or tribal prism. According to Prime Minister Raila Odinga political alliances based on ethnicity were rather primitive. On his part Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Mutula Kilonzo says the new constitution makes ethnicity irrelevant for leaders seeking elective and appointive seats. The Commission has now held a series of regional diversity conversations based on ethnicity and race with the forums bringing together key stakeholders from each of the regions. The conference was chaired by Dr. Mzalendo Kibunja and his counterpart Alice Nderitu.

NCIC on Raila Assassination Plot

Gem Member Of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has recorded a statement with the criminal investigations department over his weekend claim that a plan had been hatched to eliminate Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Midiwo, who is also the parliamentary joint chief whip, was grilled by the detectives even as the national cohesion and integration commission censured the mp, and asked him to refrain from making sensational utterances that could stoke friction in the country. But, as Willis Raburu now reports, Midiwo insists he was ready to defend his claim even in a court of law.
