NCIC to study complaint on KPA tribal bias

NCIC chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia is however calling for sobriety in the debate as his team takes an audit. The appointments have sparked a row in the coast with a section of leaders accusing Transport Minister Amos Kimunya of violating the constitution.

Kimunya Snubs NCIC's Summons

Transport minister Amos Kimunya has been dealt a humbling blow after the high court temporarily put on hold the appointment of new Kenya Ports Authority Board members. Justice Mohamed Warsame directed that the new team of directors, whose appointment has triggered a furore, should not transact any business at the ports authority until a case filed by Malindi mp Gideon Mung'aro is heard and determined. But a defiant Kimunya snubbed commissioners of the National Cohesion and Intergration Commission, (NCIC), who had visited and had gone to interview the minister at his transom house office over the alleged tribal appointments. NCIC, Police to Monitor Hate Speech

Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere has said that police will work hand-in-hand with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission in monitoring hate speech before, during and after the election. Iteere said police are now equipped with monitoring gadgets and are working with the NCIC to dispel the popular disclaimer by politicians that they were misquoted. He was speaking during the launch of a training exercise for police officers and the NCIC on hate speech. Willis Raburu reports

Extension of NCIC Term

The stage is set for a showdown in Parliament as members of the August House prepare to debate a motion seeking to extend the tenure of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) by 12 months. The Commission's term expires on 7th next month, and the mover of the motion, nominated MP Mohamed Affey believes the process of reconstituting the Commission could be marred by competing political interests, ahead of next year's general election. But as Francis Gachuri reports, some MPs insist that Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia and his team have not done enough to deserve an extended mandate.
